Top 10 Bruins prospects: Jack Studnicka is at the top of the heap - Stanley Cup of ChowderThere have been some young prospects in the Boston Bruins organization over the last ten years who have not panned out over time. Anders Bjork, Ryan Donato, Jacob Forsbacka-Karlsson, Zach Senyshyn, Jakub Zboril, and Jack Studnicka have all entered the organization with some notoriety, and all of them have moved on to other teams or out of the NHL by now. Bruins fans seem to fall in love with their prospects, only to have most of them fall short of NHL success.

Oskar Steen was not a highly touted prospect as a sixth-round draft choice in the 2016 NHL Draft, the same draft that saw the Bruins secure roster core members Charlie McAvoy, Trent Frederic, and current New York Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren. Steen was the 165th overall selection by Boston and fought the long odds to make the Bruins’ lineup during the 2020-21 season when the Karlstad, Sweden native played three games for Boston. Steen played seven games for Sweden in the 2018 World Junior Championships and chipped in two goals and two assists. In all, Steen would play 60 NHL games and score four goals with four assists.Top 10 Bruins prospects: Jack Studnicka is at the top of the heap - Stanley Cup of Chowder

Bruins Benders: Are the Boston Bruins interested in Matt Roy?

Latest reports on Steen have indicated that the winger’s time with Boston will be coming to an end as the Group 6 unrestricted free agent has been given permission by the team to seek employment elsewhere. Steen will now be free to join any NHL team or play overseas. The 26-year-old forward never played a playoff game with Boston and was active for 34 games this season with one goal and cleared waivers in February. Steen played 25 games with Providence and collected 12 goals and four assists.Top 10 Bruins prospects: Jack Studnicka is at the top of the heap - Stanley Cup of Chowder

In 222 AHL games, Steen scored 53 goals with 63 assists for the Providence Bruins. Only four players in the sixth round of the 2016 NHL Draft have played more games in the league than Oskar Steen.
