Tottenham news: Luton Town have struggled to defend their own goal since earning promotion to the Premier League and Spurs have the blueprint to benefit this weekend

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham are in full swing after seven Premier League games. And ahead of the second international break of the season, life is good at Hotspur Way.

Last weekend’s victory over Liverpool was another memorable moment for the north London outfit, despite its VAR controversy. Spurs have now avoided defeat against some of the league’s top teams – Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United – something the club have struggled to achieve in recent years.

However, the upcoming round of fixtures present Postecoglou’s side with a different type of test. Luton Town away has been earmarked as a difficult game for the majority of teams due to its tight and compact atmosphere.

Unfortunately for the Harriers, they have been unable to win a single of their first three home games. And the visit of Tottenham has all the pointers for a comfortable away win.Heung-Min Son and James Maddison

Tottenham’s start to the season means they are many people’s favourite to win at Kenilworth Road. However, the early kick-off on a Saturday at a newly-promoted team does provide its troubles and Postecoglou will be hoping to avoid an upset.

Multiple factors could impact the result in Luton. Yet the creativity and quality of James Maddison and Son Heung-min will almost certainly be vital. First of all, Luton are yet to keep a clean sheet and have been soft in defence

For Lyle Foster’s opener, it took Burnley four passes to go from defence to attack and it all came through the middle. Sander Berge, who played in an advanced midfielder position for Vincent Kompany’s team, was allowed acres of space in the middle of the pitch before feeding Foster through.

Tottenham have quality players throughout their team but Maddison has taken the north Londoners to another level with his position-taking and incredible passes. If Spurs can get the England international into the right areas in-between the lines, Luton have proved that they are incapable of defending it.Heung-Min Son and James Maddison

For the winner, Jacob Brunn Larsen cut inside off the right before firing a curling strike past Thomas Kaminski. A simple, but efficient goal and the type of goal we’ve become accustomed to with Son.

It’s unclear whether the Spurs skipper will play out wide or centrally, although the injury to Manor Solomon could force the South Korean out to left wing to allow Richarlison to start as the No.9. Roles could be reversed, however, as seen against Liverpool.

Luton are expected to deploy a low block against Tottenham, but as they’ve proved many times this season, their defensive mishaps could be crucial in Spurs avoiding a huge upset. Victory over Luton and a draw between Manchester City and Arsenal on Sunday could see Tottenham top the Premier League for the first time since Nuno Espirito Santo’s men won their first three games of the 2021/22 season
