Coventry City should aim to recruit four free agents this summer.
We’ve looked at four free agents who might join Coventry City this summer.

This weekend, Coventry City will host Birmingham City in an attempt to secure their spot in the Championship play-offs.

The Sky Blues have been in terrific form recently, and another three points on Saturday will extend their league undefeated streak to six games.

Last Saturday, Mark Robins’ side won 2-1 against Reading, moving them up to fifth in the rankings and putting them in control of their own fate.

With six points from their next two games, Coventry will be assured of a place in the Championship play-offs come May.

However, because their future league status is unknown, it is difficult to predict what their transfer plans will be this summer.

We at FLW have looked at four free agents that Coventry might sign this summer…

Which free agents may Coventry be able to sign this summer?
Onomah, Josh

Preston North End, Coventry City’s play-off opponents, presently have Josh Onomah on their team.

The 26-year-old joined the Lilywhites in the January transfer window when his contract with Premier League side Fulham was cancelled.

The midfielder signed a contract until the end of the season, which means he will be available for free transfer in summer.

Onomah has made 11 appearances for Preston since joining the club, becoming one of the team’s mainstays under Ryan Lowe, and with Gustavo Hamer’s future uncertain this summer, he might be an alternative the club considers.

Dasilva, Jay

The defender has already established himself as one of the top fullbacks in the Championship.

Throughout his time at Bristol City, the 25-year-old has demonstrated that he is a defender who enjoys going forward and being an offensive threat.

So, given how Coventry’s fullbacks operate, Dasilva would be an ideal match for that style. Coventry presently have Manchester City loanee Josh Wilson-Esbrand, and with him due to return to his home club, the Sky Blues may be looking for a new left defender.

Dasilva is still young and would compete with Jake Bidwell, who is currently at the club.

Ogbene Chiedozie

Ogbene’s contract at Rotherham United is coming to an end, and with no word on whether he will sign a new one, he might be an appealing option for many Championship clubs.

Throughout his time at New York Stadium, the 25-year-old has demonstrated that he can be a player who not only creates but also takes chances. In 37 league appearances, the attacker has seven goals and four assists.

Coventry may struggle to retain Viktor Gyokeres this summer, and Ogbene might be a good alternative to have as a possible replacement for the Swedish star.

As previously said, Gyokeres might leave Coventry this summer, and it will be up to Coventry and Robins to find a suitable replacement for the striker.

Many anticipate the club to invest part of the money they will receive for the Swedish international, but Lucas Joao might also be a viable choice.

Former manager Paul Ince appears to prefer alternate options, hence the striker hasn’t been employed as much as in previous seasons. However, Joao has demonstrated over time that he is a good striker at Championship level, and with the Royals looking certain to be relegated, it is probable that Joao will move when his contract ends.
