Andrea Belotti’s unenviable spell at Roma is approaching an inevitable end as Serie A newcomers Como prepare to announce him as their first big-name signing. According to Filippo Biafora, the 30-year-old’s switch to Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia is a mere formality after the clubs agreed on a €4 million transfer fee.
The agreement includes performance-related bonuses as Belotti bids farewell to Roma after two forgettable years. Once one of the deadliest and most in-demand strikers in Serie A, the ex-Italy international has been a shadow of a player who tore defenses apart at Torino since landing at the Stadio Olimpico.
Belotti’s first season at Roma was an unmitigated disaster. He failed to score from 30 league appearances. His bizarre barren run continued at the start of 2023/24, resulting in his winter exit. Fiorentina hoped to revive the Italian’s career, but his six-month spell at Artemio Franchi failed to live up to the billing.
After La Viola refused to sign him permanently, Belotti will hope a new chapter at Como could take his career back on track. Roma fans can only look back at his time in the capital with regret, knowing he arrived with the pedigree of a lethal goalscorer and now leaves as a beleaguered disappointment.
