Chelsea have repeated an Arsenal transfer trick with confirmation of Omari Hutchinson’s permanent move Ipswich Town edging closer. The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at the Tractor Boys where he scored 11 goals and picked up six assists in their promotion-winning campaign.
Because of his success, Ipswich understandably wanted Hutchinson to return with talks opened over a transfer earlier this week. With the Blues needing to raise funds before their PSR deadline and Ipswich wanting him back, negotiations went smoothly with a £22million deal agreed on Saturday, as football.london understands.
Alongside obtaining funds for the exit of Hutchinson, Chelsea are set to receive in the region of £37million from Ian Maatsen’s move to Aston Villa. While Chelsea are expected to take home the majority of that fee, the same cannot be said for the deal that will see Hutchinson return to Portman Road.
Before Hutchinson was at Chelsea, he was on Arsenal’s books with his switch across London occurring in 2022 for an undisclosed fee. As part of that deal, football.london understands Arsenal inserted a sell-on clause into that move and as such they will now see receive a percentage of the £22million coming the way of Chelsea.
As Chelsea will not be receiving the agreed fee in full, it appears they have made a decision of their own for the future that Arsenal made two years ago. According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have inserted a sell-on clause in the region of 25 per cent into the contract Hutchinson will sign upon his arrival at Ipswich.
It has also been noted that Chelsea will have a first refusal clause if another club attempts to sign Hutchinson in the future with the Englishmen having the final say.
