Borussia Dortmund v Real Madrid CF - UEFA Champions League Final 2023/24In recent months, the names of players like Conor Gallagher and Eberechi Eze have circulated the media as prospective Tottenham signings, though minimal progress has been made on those fronts as far as onlookers are aware.

As such, it’s obvious why the club would want to look into alternative talent pools for potential incomings, and that hasn’t precluded European giants Real Madrid.

According to French news outlet Foot Mercato, Tottenham have reached out to the Spanish side to express their interest in 24-year-old winger/attacking-midfielder Brahim Diaz (via Madrid Universal). But the proposal was met with little reciprocity.

As the report explains, both Tottenham and Roma “suffered a categorical refusal from the management of Real Madrid who believe that Brahim Diaz will still be useful next season.”Borussia Dortmund v Real Madrid CF - UEFA Champions League Final 2023/24

Additionally, the report found, “Carlo Ancelotti, who really appreciates the player, doesn’t seem to want to part with him so quickly either. It will therefore take an irrefutable offer to succeed in convincing Real Madrid.”

The finding comes amid other unsuccessful bids from the North London club within England as they were turned down by Aston Villa after expressing their interest in 23-year-old Jacob Ramsey.

Clearly, Spurs are looking to fill their transfer needs with young talent, and while that provides a lot in the way of building a team with a long-term vision of development, it can make things more difficult in terms of actually getting them to join in the first place.

For players like Diaz, who have been working to try and build upon the foundation they’ve already established for themselves at their current clubs, they may not be ready for a big departure just yet.

The report by Foot Mercato seemed to corroborate such an assumption, stating that in the past season, “Brahim Diaz wanted to establish himself sustainably in his favorite club despite strong competition in attack.” Understandably, it seems that the player wants to continue on in that effort, meaning Spurs could be met with increasing challenges in such a pursuit.
