Newcastle will make a move for Mauricio Pochettino if Eddie Howe takes the England job.
The Toon boss is on a Three Lions shortlist to replace Gareth Southgate, and is believed to be torn between the chance of managing his country and staying at St. James’ Park.
The Newcastle hierarchy would like a swift answer because if Howe leaves then there would be just a short window to go for their No.1 target, former Spurs and Chelsea boss Pochettino.
The former Bournemouth boss is enjoying his job on Tyneside, but has just lost his two biggest allies in the boardroom, Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi who have both recently left the club after selling their stakes.
Paul Mitchell, recently installed as Newcastle’s sporting director, brought the then relatively unknown Pochettino to Southampton through his role as Saints head of recruitment.
The pair linked up again at Tottenham and enjoyed a good working relationship.
