When you look at West Ham’s stats last season, scoring goals wasn’t a massive issue for them; it was their abysmal defensive record that let them down. However, their lack of a quality striker really affected them as it meant multiple players had to play out of their preferred position.

Ultimately, having a proper No.9 would have perhaps been the difference in them securing European football once again.

Thankfully, the club are eager to make sure Julen Lopetegui has everything he needs to succeed at the London Stadium, and a striker that suits his system is now the top priority.

Although many are being considered, the majority of reports suggest that Jhon Duran is the main target. The Aston Villa striker may not have had all that many chances to prove himself, but he still managed to score 5 Premier League goals last season.

If this is the case, you’d imagine that Aston Villa have finally agreed to lower the initial fee for a more incentive-based agreement, as our Irons seemed set in stone about not meeting their initial demands.
