Nottingham Forest have been handed a huge boost as they continue ramping up their preparations for the new season in Spain.

Forest have played a single friendly in the warm weather so far, with Nuno Espirito Santo overseeing a 1-1 draw against Sunderland on Friday.

Omar Richards scored during that game and he is one fringe player being given a chance to prove himself on this trip.

The Reds face Millwall on Tuesday evening and ahead of that game, there is some positive news emerging from the training camp.

Nottingham Forest get double boost at Spanish training camp

Well, this is unheard of from a Forest perspective and whisper it quietly but Espirito Santo now has a full squad at his disposal.

Every player currently available to the head coach is now at the training camp in Spain gearing up for the new season.

This comes after Taiwo Awoniyi linked up with his teammates today and Matz Sels returned from his extended break after Euro 2024.

The two players were the missing pieces for Forest and it’s certainly a positive that now Espirito Santo has the chance to properly get to work on his squad.

Awoniyi was taking a break following a personal problem that required him to stay back in England – but it appears that is now resolved.

The striker will be desperate to get going this season and stay fit to aid the Forest cause for a strong campaign.

Sels knows he has to get to work quickly as he looks to keep Carlos Miguel at bay in the quest for the number one spot.

Forest squad coming together nicely

Some good signings have been made by Forest so far and hopefully, a few more can finish the squad off for next season.

The Reds had too much business to do towards the end of the transfer window last season and that proved a little bit too late.

Early on in the season, the results were somewhat patchy and hopefully, a more joined-up approach this summer can see Forest hit the ground running.

Having Awoniyi with the team is a huge bonus for Forest as his presence does change the way in which the Reds attack games.

As for Sels, he was largely impressive last season and he won’t feel he’s done a lot wrong if he’s to lose the gloves.

Having Miguel at the club is a positive though and it gives Espirito Santo another conundrum ahead of the new campaign.

A full squad can only be a good thing and with games against Millwall and Elche to come, hopefully, the duo can get some minutes under their belt.
