Sunderland look set to further add to their three summer signings in the coming weeks, with the Black Cats’ season starting away at Cardiff City on August 10th.

Several names have been linked with summer moves to the Stadium of Light with Sunderland trying to sign Alexandre Mendy from Caen.

Kristjaan Speakman recently got the club’s third summer signing over the line with Ian Poveda joining Sunderland on a three-year deal after seeing his Leeds United contract expire.

He joins Simon Moore and Alan Browne in signing for Sunderland this summer; all join as free agents and all add much-needed Championship experience to the Sunderland first-team squad.

Another player who’d do so, but who’d require a transfer fee, is Basel’s Liam Millar.

Millar scored five and created five more in 35 league appearances with Preston, with Sunderland and Leeds United among the teams chasing the former Liverpool man this summer.

Sunderland face major hurdle in race to sign Liam Millar

There’s no doubt that Millar would add a degree of quality and experience to the Sunderland ranks, regardless of whether or not the club needs another winger.

But Basel want £2.1million for Millar this summer, and with Sunderland looking set to spend on Mendy and/or another striker, whether or not Sunderland owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus will then go and spend on Millar remains to be seen.

Millar not arriving though would give the likes of Romaine Mundle and Abdoullah Ba the chance to kick on next season, especially so if Clarke leaves as there’ll be plenty of opportunities for game time under Regis Le Bris.
