Stevenage are attempting to secure the signing of Bradford City and former Swindon Town striker Jake Young this summer, according to reports.
23-year-old Young began his senior career with Guiseley before being picked up by Sheffield United in 2019. However, his stay with the Blades was short as he soon moved onto Forest Green Rovers. He appeared 62 times for the club, scoring 12 times and picking up two assists whilst the side were playing in League Two, which prompted Bradford City to call for his services.
He failed to make a significant impact in his first season with the Bantams, only making 12 appearances across all competitions in the first half of the season, scoring on four occasions before departing on loan to Barrow. His spell with the Bluebirds also didn’t pull up any trees as he failed to score in 17 games.
However, Young’s potential was finally reached in the opening half of the 23/24 campaign. He linked up with Michael Flynn’s new-look Swindon Town attack alongside Charlie Austin and Dan Kemp and began scoring for fun, at times leading the goalscoring charts. He scored 16 goals in his opening 25 games, including four in a 6-0 victory over now-League One side Crawley Town. Understandably he was recalled by Graham Alexander’s side in January. He was only able to appear five times for the Bantams in the latter half of the season as he battled injury.
Now according to Alan Nixon, he could be set to reunite with Dan Kemp at Stevenage.
Stevenage’s Big Season
This could prove to be one of the biggest seasons in Stevenage’s history. After losing such a huge character, and the driving force behind the turnaround in the club’s fortunes it can be tough to go again. They have kept somewhat of a status quo behind the scenes with the appointment of Revell, who worked alongside Evans, but they are certainly big shoes to fill.
Some of the signings do seem to indicate some changes though from the current Rotherham manager’s preferred style of play. Reuniting Young and Kemp in a more stable environment could be a masterstroke for the club. The pair already know each other’s patterns of play and get on well.
