excitement is building ahead of this week’s big kick-off to the new Championship season with plenty of optimism in and around Coventry City for a positive campaign ahead.
The Sky Blues get things up and running at Stoke City on Saturday, boosted by six new additions so far this summer and the possibility of a couple more before the summer transfer window closes at the end of the month.
Here we get the views of the local media, the reporters and presenters who will be following and covering Mark Robins’ men up and down the country for their predictions and views on how the season will pan out.
Top six and hopefully giving the top two a run for their money. The reason why is because I think City have recruited really smartly this summer with several exciting attacking options to complement the impressive signings from last summer. A year on, those players will hopefully go up a level, having got to know and establish themselves in the division, and the likes of Ephron Mason-Clark, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Jack Rudoni have already shown that they are going to be excellent additions to the squad that keeps on getting better.
City have been really strong in midfield in recent years and Ben Sheaf continues to get better and better. He’s a really important player who has outstanding quality and a great influence on those around him. And taking the captaincy will hopefully take him to another level again.
Who is the club’s best signing and what is their biggest challenge?
Jack Rudoni has been the standout signing so far and effortlessly stepped into Callum O’Hare’s boots in terms of being a driving, attacking force in the side. I feel he’s more robust than O’Hare and everything we have seen so far suggests he’s going to be an upgrade on the former favourite.
His biggest challenge is probably going to be getting the goals he knows he’s capable of scoring, in terms of numbers. He hit double figures at AFC Wimbledon prior to joining Huddersfield and he has set himself a clear target of double figures for goals as well as assists this season.
