Leeds United are interested in Chelsea defender Bashir Humphreys but he is not a priority signing, according to Beren Cross.Daniel Farke at Leeds United

The Leeds Live journalist reported via his personal X account [10 August] that the Whites are tracking the 21-year-old talent after Fabrizio Romano’s update earlier today that the Whites and Burnley are among the teams interested.

It is understood that Humphreys could be signed as cover at right-back, playing on either flank, but he is far from natural when not at centre-back, which is why the signing is not a priority.

Leeds United to sign Bashir Humphreys?

With Humphreys set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, Leeds must act quickly if they are to secure his signature.

The Whites have already missed out on one Chelsea talent, Alfie Gilchrist, who has joined Sheffield United on loan for the season, and Daniel Farke’s side cannot afford to miss out again [Yorkshire Evening Post].

However, if Leeds are desperate for more cover at right-back, it must be said that an out-and-out natural full-back would make more sense than the inexperienced Humphreys.Daniel Farke at Leeds United

The 21-year-old, who spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan with Swansea City in the Championship, has made just two senior appearances for the Blues and could be signed as a last-resort back-up in the centre of defence.

While Pascal Struijk has returned from injury to partner up with Joe Rodon, Max Wober being the only replacement could be a concern as fixtures come thick and fast at Elland Road.
