Ethan Ampadu ‘thriving’ at Leeds United after ‘unreserved and direct’ talk with Daniel Farke
Ethan Ampadu is “thriving” at Leeds United and has made the midfield spot his own, according to Leeds Live journalist William Jackson.
It comes after an “unreserved and direct” talk with manager Daniel Farke before the player joined the club in the summer.
Wales international Ampadu was the club’s first signing of the most recent window, arriving on a four-year deal from Chelsea.
Superb signing
Ampadu has perhaps unsurprisingly been an instant hit at Elland Road, with the versatile player much-loved by the Leeds faithful despite only arriving in the summer.
That is thanks to his superb displays in both defence and midfield, with the 23-year-old exactly the kind of player that Farke needs if he wants to bring the club back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
The Wales ace is one of several young stars at the West Yorkshire outfit, with the manager combining such players with a handful of experienced men this season.
Ampadu has, however, played so much football already this season, and looks certain to continue his minutes on the pitch with Wales in the current international break.
That may just worry his manager, with the Championship campaign a very lengthy one, with the Whites playing 46 matches in total, and more if they were to make it into the play-offs.
In other Leeds United news, an international manager has shared a “positive” update on one Whites ace amid a “hugely frustrating” injury.
“Daniel Farke made it clear what he wanted from Ethan Ampadu in the very first meeting the pair had over the summer,” Jackson wrote for Leeds Live. “Ampadu hadn’t even signed for the Whites yet, but Farke took the opportunity to lay out his expectations of the Wales international, explain his plans and pinpoint a few weaknesses in his game.
“It was unreserved and direct, but the ex-Chelsea man heard enough to know Farke was the man to help him take his game to the next level at Elland Road. Almost three months have passed since that meeting and Ampadu has wasted no time in establishing himself as one of the driving forces in United’s promotion push with his performances in midfield picking up plaudits from far and wide.
“Of course, the 23-year-old is versatile and he has spent much of his senior career, prior to his switch to West Yorkshire, playing as a defender, spending time at the back during his loan spells at Sheffield United, Venezia and Spezia. This season, then, is the first time he has had the chance to make a midfield spot his own and he seems to be thriving off the freedom he has been given to play his natural game.”
