Daniel Farke’s Leeds welcomed John Mousinho’s newly-promoted Portsmouth on the opening day of the season, and the encounter certainly had its dramas. In the 92nd minute, Portsmouth scored from the penalty spot to go 3-2 up and all but claim victory, until Brenden Aaronson’s goal a few minutes later stole a point for Leeds.
The Whites are, of course, going into this season with the expectation of gaining promotion to the Premier League, but it will be no easy task with the likes of Burnley, Sheffield United, Sunderland, and many others having the same goal in mind.
Their task has been made even more difficult in recent weeks as multiple players have departed, including some rather important stars. Crysencio Summerville departed for Premier League West Ham, Glen Kamara moved to Ligue 1 and Archie Gray went to Tottenham for a sizeable fee.
Unfortunately, it looks as though the big departures have not ended for Leeds, as another attacking threat is on their way out.
Georginio Rutter set for Leeds departure
This week, it was revealed that Brighton and Hove Albion have activated the £40 million release clause in Georginio Rutter’s contract at Leeds United. This is obviously a huge blow for the Whites who are set to lose yet another star from last season.
Rutter scored six goals and assisted an impressive 15 last regular season and was a key cog in Daniel Farke’s starting 11. Last weekend, he played the full 90 minutes in Leeds’ opener against Portsmouth and got back to his creative self by assisting Leeds’ second goal.
