Chronicle Live understands the Black Cats are hoping to get a deal over the line for the promising 18-year-old midfielder prior to deadline day, beating a number of high profile clubs to his signature.

The versatile midfielder, who turns 19 on August 30, has had interest from Chelsea and Benfica in recent months but Sunderland look set to have won the race for his signature. Capable of playing across the midfield, Aleksic has played 87 times despite his young age, scoring 20 goals in all competitions.

Reports in Europe claim the youngster is set to undergo a medical before signing a four-year deal with the Black Cats after a ‘£3.1m deal’ was agreed. Chronicle Live understands a deal is at an advanced stage.

Aleksic came through the youth set-up at FK Partizan before joining Radnicki 1923 at the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign. The Serbian outfit were beaten 4-3 on penalties in the second qualifying round of the competition with Aleksic scoring deep into injury time to send the tie to extra time. His form this season has led to him being called up to the Serbian international set-up for the first time ahead of their September games against Spain and Denmark.

Sunderland are hoping to conclude a deal before the transfer window closes on Friday, August 30 at 11pm.
