EXCLUSIVE
Bristol Rovers striker Junior Agogo has been charged by police with attempted rape.
The charge is understood to relate to an incident in Doncaster on May 7 of this year.
The 25-year-old strongly denies the allegations and has received the full backing of his club.
Agogo featured in Rovers’ FA Cup tie with Carlisle on Saturday, although did not score in a 1-1 draw, and his agent Saif Rubie told skysports.com that the player is determined not to let the allegations affect him.
“Junior refutes all the allegations made against him,” Rubie told skysports.com.
“However, due to the seriousness of the allegations we have instructed lawyers to deal with the case accordingly.
“Junior has the full support of Bristol Rovers football club and will attempt to repay that faith by continuing his good form of this season.
“It has come at the worst possible time for Junior, but people in his position are vulnerable to such allegations because of their status.”
Agogo has attracted attention this season with his goalscoring exploits, and already has 12 goals to his name in all competitions.
The striker is scheduled to appear at Sheffield Crown Court next Friday where he will enter his plea.
