According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham are now keeping a close eye on Maeda, with Postecoglou considering a reunion with his former teammate, with whom he worked during his time at Celtic Park.
Postecoglou is drawn to the 25-year-old’s versatility since he can play on both sides as well as through the center, having played at centre-forward on 66 occasions in his career.
Spurs are now negotiating the terms of a transfer for the Japan international, who has attracted the attention due to his “relentless engine and willingness to press.” Celtic are thought to be looking for a minimum of £25 million to authorise his exit.
How talented is Daizen Maeda?
Shaun Ontong, who worked with Postecoglou at Yokohama F. Marinos, praised the Japanese winger’s engine, telling KEEPUP:
“It’s not just his speed, but Daizen’s ability to repeat speeds and sprints that impresses me so much physically.” Many quick players can make one short burst and then need time to recover before going again. His ability to do it and then do it again and again, even in the 80th or 90th minute. It’s simply incredible.”
Given that Postecoglou’s teams are notorious for pushing hard, the Celtic star may be an ideal match at Tottenham. He is also extremely capable of scoring goals, having scored eight in 31 Scottish Premiership games last season.
