Joe Rodon “stood up” for Wales in a strong performance by the Leeds United defender on international duty, according to WalesOnline.Leeds United badge, Patrick Bamford

WalesOnline scored the centre-back an 8/10 in their player ratings after the goalless draw in Friday’s (6 September) Nations League goalless draw.

They added that Rodon “rattled” Turkey forward Baris Alper Yilmaz in the first half, though he did miss a “great chance” in the early stages of the match.

The sentiment was reflected by Y Clwb Pel-Droed in their own ratings (6 September), with Rodon also scoring an 8/10. They said the Leeds man “won everything that came near him” and, playing alongside Tottenham’s Ben Davies, limited Turkey from having any serious attempts on goal.

Joe Rodon Wales plaudits hardly surprising after Leeds United form

Rodon receiving an impressing rating for his performances on international duty is a continuation of his domestic form at Elland Road for the past year, with plenty of 8/10’s dished out for the Welshman last season.

Playing alongside both Pascal Struijk and compatriot Ethan Ampadu for large swathes of the previous campaign, Rodon became a constant in Daniel Farke’s side during his loan spell from Tottenham.

Returning to LS11 permanently for £10million as Archie Gray headed the other way, it seems Rodon’s centre-back spot will be his to lose for the foreseeable future for both club and country.

With new club captain Ampadu moving back into midfield, Rodon and Struijk’s partnership has picked up from where it left off, with another left-sided defender in Maximilian Wober also back in the mix.Leeds United badge, Patrick Bamford

Other than youngsters like James Debayo and Diogo Monteiro, Rodon remains the clear choice in the right-centre-back spot, and as he carries his club form onto the international stage, the 26-year-old is making £10m look like a steal.

In other Leeds United news, one striker at Elland Road is still seen as a “priority” with new contract talks to begin in the coming weeks.
