Jeremy Swayman and the Boston Bruins continue negotiate a new contract that could very well set the market for goaltenders for years to come.
Unfortunately, it has not been going very well. Overall, the Bruins are looking to only pay Swayman about $6 million per year. However, Swayman wants $10 million per year. Both sides seem to be far apart and there is no telling whether or not they are ever going to get closer in terms of both length of the deal and dollar amount.
Some have theorized that the Bruins will have to trade Swayman. According to Elliotte Friedman on 32 Thoughts, that is completely out of the question. While he has not yet spoken to Bruins GM Don Sweeney, Friedman is confident that the team will not be trading their franchise goalie.
This would be good news for all of the Bruins fans out there. However, it is still worrisome that nothing has gotten done yet. Swayman is not at training camp, and he has no plans to be until he finally get a deal. Needless to say, this is going to be a long stretch of hockey for the Bruins and their passionate fanbase.
