The idea of trophies and Tottenham Hotspur go hand in hand with most conversations in the football world these days, and Ange Postecoglou has been explaining what success will look like for him at the club.
Progress is paramount for Postecoglou
Postecoglou himself has discussed how much he wants to, and believes he can, deliver silverware for Tottenham after a long 16-year wait for a trophy.
While some will insist he and the Tottenham fanbase should be more realistic, Postecoglou is determined to expel the idea that the club should simply aim for a high finish in the Premier League; he demands we all aim higher than that.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “What we’re looking for is progress. Where that progress takes us, I’m not going to put a limit on it. Hopefully, it takes us to a place where we’re challenging for trophies this year. That’s the goal, it’s always the ambition. I’m not going to downplay expectations. My role is to maximise it.”
How long will Postecoglou be at Spurs?
Obviously, nobody knows how long Postecoglou will be at the club. A lot of that will be down to how successful he is, and his own desire to be here.
But, that hasn’t stopped him from thinking ahead and planning for a long future in North London, which is something he believes he has to do if he really wants to bring success to the club.
He added: “I think you have to [think long-term]. It’s the only way you can build real, meaningful, sustainable success. Part of what I’ve loved on my journey is that the clubs I’ve left have continued to be successful… that something I’ve created is there for the next person, there’s good foundations.
