The Rangers’ injuries and roster moves page will be updated throughout the offseason. Texas is currently at the 40-man limit on the Major League roster, with six players on the 60-day injured list: Evan Carter, Carson Coleman, Jon Gray, Tyler Mahle, Corey Seager and Cole Winn. They will be added back to the roster after the conclusion of the World Series.
RHP Josh Sborz (right shoulder fatigue)
Expected return: 2025
This is Sborz’s fourth shoulder-related injured-list stint. He said after his last appearance on Sept. 24 in Oakland that he felt he had figured out the issue, but he didn’t appear in a game the rest of the season. He finished the season with a 2.86 ERA across 17 relief appearances. (Last updated: Sept. 28)
3B Josh Jung (right wrist tendinitis)
Expected return: 2025
Jung missed the majority of the year with a fractured right wrist after being hit with a pitch just four games into the regular season. Throughout his rehab, Jung endured discomfort near the surgical site, which slowed his progress until he returned to the active roster on July 29.
That discomfort returned. Jung last played on Sept. 18 against Toronto at Globe Life Field. The hope was for him to return to the lineup during the final road trip of the season, but he instead visited his surgeon in Arizona on Sept. 26 to get a CT scan and figure out the best course of action for the offseason.
Jung hit .264/.298/.421 in 46 games in 2024, but before fracturing his wrist, he was without a doubt the Rangers’ best hitter after going 7-for-17 with two walks, one double, one triple and two homers over the first four games. More >> (Last updated: Sept. 24)
RHP Max Scherzer (left hamstring strain)
Expected return: 2025
Scherzer, who is a free agent this offseason, was scratched from his Sept. 21 start against the Mariners with a left hamstring strain. He was added to the 15-day injured list, ending his season and likely his time with the club.
This was Scherzer’s third IL stint in 2024 due to offseason back surgery and various arm fatigue and nerve issues throughout the year. He was never able to ramp up to a full workload, and finished the season with a 3.95 ERA in nine starts. (Last updated: Sept. 21)
RHP José Ureña (right shoulder fatigue)
Expected return: 2025
The Rangers would have liked to keep Ureña on the roster and wait to see how he’s feeling, but manager Bruce Bochy explained they couldn’t risk being short in the bullpen for the Sept. 15 series finale against the Mariners.
The veteran finished with 5-8 with a 3.80 ERA over 33 appearances (nine starts) for Texas in 2024. (Last updated: Sept. 15)
