Coleman remains sidelined with a foot injury which he picked up on international duty in last month’s 2-0 home defeat to England, having not featured for Everton since that sebtack.

Smallbone is another blow as he remains out with a hamstring injury he also picked up while in the Ireland camp last month.

The 24-year-old has been absent for all of Southampton’s matches since, with Saints boss Russell Martin admitting this week that the midfielder could be in line o return to action after the October international window.

The absence of Smallbone, who started both defeats to England and Greece last month, is a blow but Hallgrimsson will have been pleased to see Jayson Molumby return to action for West Brom on Monday night having been sidelined with a calf issue.

Burnley’s Josh Cullen is also set for a recall after recovering from injury, while fellow midfielder Alan Browne put a knee issue behind him to return to action for Sunderland in Championship action on Monday night.

Seeking his first win as Irish boss this month, Hallgrimsson will name his squad for the double-header at lunchtime on Thursday.Séamus Coleman leaves the pitch with an injury during the UEFA Nations League B Group 2 defeat to England at the Aviva Stadium. Photo by Ben McShane/Sportsfile
