West Ham have reportedly found out the date of Lucas Paqueta’s hearing.
Lucas Paqueta’s performances this season have been extremely lacklustre. Unfortunately, this is nothing new. For the majority of last season the midfielder was well below the levels expected of someone with the skill set he has.
Clearly, something is affecting him and it’s fair to assume that it’s the betting scandal he’s found himself caught up in. The alleged spot fixing happened across multiple Premier League matches where Paqueta was booked, all of which had suspicious bets on from around where he is originally from.
Many had assumed it would be dropped in the Summer after a year of radio silence, but the FA shockingly decided to charge him.
Since then we’ve been waiting to hear when he will have his hearing, and it seems like we’ve finally got that information as, according to The Sun, it is set to begin in March.
This obviously means he will be available for the majority of the season but, if found guilty, the report claims he could face a lifetime ban.
Ultimately, the sooner the better in many ways. If found guilty our Irons can start planning for a future without him, if cleared then you’d hope that Paqueta can start playing without any weight on his shoulders.
