Jamie Carragher has hit out at Everton after the Toffees posted a video brutally trolling Anthony Gordon.

Gordon missed two huge chances, including a penalty, as his Newcastle side were held to a goalless draw by Everton on Saturday. The attacker had spent 10 years at Goodison Park, coming through the club’s academy before starring in their first team.

In January 2023, the Englishman secured a £45million move to Newcastle after submitting a formal transfer request. He has starred for the Magpies since then, winning the club’s Player of the Year award last season.

But his return to Merseyside did not go well, with Jordan Pickford saving his penalty 10 minutes before half-time. That drew a brutal response from his former club, who posted a video of his spot-kick on social media with a Britain’s Got Talent-esque buzzer sound at the end.

That video has infuriated Newcastle fans, with Carragher also hitting out at the Toffees over the decision to post it. He insisted Gordon deserved more respect from his former club.

Carragher tweeted: “Local lad who came through your academy, helped keep you up under Lampard, wanted out because the club was a shambles on and off the pitch & who you then sold for £40million. The Peoples club!”

Gordon took full responsibility for Newcastle’s failure to beat Sean Dyche’s strugglers. But he insisted he would continue to step up to take penalties for the Tynesiders despite his miss.
