The Town chief saw off competition from Hull City’s Liam Rosenior (W2, D3, L0), Cardiff City’s Erol Bulut (W4, D0, L1) and Sunderland’s Tony Mowbray (W4, D0, L1) to lift the honour.
Former Barnsley boss Danny Wilson, who chairs the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month judging panel, was full of praise for the Blues.
He said: “Unbeaten in September, Kieran’s team are setting a terrific pace along with Leicester forging an eight-point gap to third place at this very early stage of the season, playing some sublime football with a steely determination.”
And Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman echoed those sentiments.
He enthused: “Ipswich have continued their incredible start in September and are showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.
“Kieran McKenna’s side would be in prime position to run away with the league were it not for Leicester who are most likely on the road to a record-breaking points total.
“13 points from 15 last month, including an impressive 3-2 win over Cardiff from 2-0 down, has shown that McKenna’s team possess an elite winning mentality alongside all their attacking talent.”
