‘Lucky’ Everton star Amadou Onana will benefit after international horror show

Chris Beesley has claimed Everton midfielder Amadou Onana will benefit from being sent off in Belgium’s 3-2 European Championships qualifying win over Albania by getting a week’s rest ahead of the Merseyside derby.

The Liverpool Echo journalist claimed this has provided a silver lining to his poor display on international duty and may have alleviated any frustrations over the performance from an Everton perspective.

Onana, who was shown a red card after committing two bookable offences, will now miss the Red Devils’ next game against Sweden on 16 October but will be well-rested for the Anfield clash.Manchester United's midfielder search goes on! Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo on 14 October, Beesley shared: “For the second time in a week, Amadou Onana is seemingly a lucky boy with a potentially positive outcome from a negative situation and Belgium’s loss can be Everton’s gain.

“Such lapses in discipline are part of a steep learning curve for the 22-year-old who had only played 32 top flight matches before his £33.5million transfer to Goodison Park in August 2022.

“Onana will now serve a one-match suspension for Belgium’s next game at home to Sweden on Monday.

“Every cloud has a silver lining though and from a Blues’ perspective, Onana can now rest for over a week ahead of the 243rd Merseyside Derby at Anfield on Saturday, October 21.”

Hopefully, it will be a much-needed awakening

Hopefully, Onana will now see a step up in his performance as a result of the dismissal. He will be determined not to let his side down again, which could see him work harder and put in more effort in an Everton shirt to ensure he atones for his error.

There has been criticism of the midfielder recently, with journalist Paul Brown voicing his frustrations to GIVEMESPORT on 12 October that Onana, despite his abundance of quality, has not shown enough consistency to be heavily lauded in an Everton shirt.

With the Merseyside derby up next, there is no better opportunity for the Beglium international to step up and show fans why he should be trusted in Sean Dyche’s midfield, and if he can help his side to victory at Anfield, his errors will be forgotten.

While this display on international duty will be frustrating to see, the club can take solace in the fact he will be rested and ready for their next Premier League trip.Manchester United's midfielder search goes on!
