Pundit Danny Murphy believes Chelsea should have inserted a sell-on clause when they sold Marc Guehi to Crystal Palace. He is now reportedly on the radar of Manchester United. The Eagles may have to fend off interest in the England international in the near future. According to London News Online, he has emerged as a ‘potential’ target for the Red Devils for next summer.
He remains under contract at Selhurst Park expires in 2026 meaning they are under no pressure to cash in on him just yet. Crystal Palace snapped him up from Chelsea two years ago and he has since become one of their most prized assets. He has made 94 appearances for the London club in all competitions to date, chipping in with six goals.
Murphy has recently said on talkSPORT: “I think it’s always difficult when players are on a certain journey that doesn’t align with the club. And what I mean by that is he wanted to play every week, he was probably at Chelsea at a time where players ahead of him were rightly ahead of him.
“And although you might see this potential and this emerging talent for a year or two years down the line, if he’s completely unsettled and there’s a value to get him gone and take the money for him and let him go, you [do that]. I mean, they should’ve put a buy-back clause in of a reasonable amount maybe.”
Guehi rose up through the academy ranks at Chelsea and was a regular for them at various youth levels. He then went on to play twice for their first-team as a youngster.
The Blues let him spend a season-and-a-half out on loan at Swansea in the Championship. He played 59 times for the Welsh side before Crystal Palace landed him.
