Mario Vrancic has encouraged Norwich City fans to keep patience with his former boss David Wagner.

The pair worked together during the Bosnian’s time with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, when Wagner was the club’s reserve coach in 2011. That experience has given the now-34-year-old confidence that his former chief can get City back on track.

“You just need to trust him,” he said on BBC Radio Norfolk’s Scrimmage podcast. “I remember when I played under him, until the winter break we were eighth or ninth.Alex Neil confirmed as new Stoke City manager on three-year contract | Football News | Sky Sports

“Then in the second part of the season we won 19 games out of 21 and got promoted. It’s a part of development, and you need to be a little bit patient with him. The results will come, and you need a bit of luck.

“He’s a great manager, and I think the players love him as well. I’m still in contact with Gibbo (Ben Gibson) and Grant (Hanley).”

Vrancic left Carrow Road more than two years ago after a second Championship title victory, but keeps an eye on how his former team are doing. He’s been impressed with the Norfolk side’s start to the campaign, but knows the pressure is about to increase.

“It’s always quite nice to watch the way they play, and I think it’s part of the development,” he continued. “But now it’s crunch time, from October to March.

“In these five months there are so many games, so I hope they will gain enough points to be in the top six at the end of the season.Alex Neil confirmed as new Stoke City manager on three-year contract | Football News | Sky Sports

“The first time we got promoted (under Farke), the first six or seven games we were horrible.

“Until the first international break we had five or six points, so we had a very bad start. They’ve had a better start now than we had five years ago.”
