Liverpool handed major selection boost as five players in contention for Everton

Jurgen Klopp’s fears were eased as five of his squad came back into the fold for Thursday’s training session ahead of the Merseyside derby.

The Reds had been handed the early kick-off slot straight after the international break for the second – but not the last – time this season. Last month this caused problems as the club’s South American contingent only arrived back at the AXA Training Centre one day before the next matchDanjuma Joins Everton

But this month the four players – Alexis Mac Allister, Allison Becker, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz – were back in training already with no fresh fitness concerns to report.

Cody Gakpo, who was taken off after scoring in the controversial loss to Tottenham last month, also stepped up his recovery by returning to return to team training.

Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic were nowhere to be seen in Thursday’s session. This comes after Klopp refused to name a timescale for the Spanish duo’s return from their respective injuries.

Andy Robertson was another absentee as it is all-but confirmed the Scotsman will miss the derby due to a shoulder injury sustained on international duty.

Kostas Tsimikas is lined up as deputy though to fill a new gap in the squad it appeared Klopp is putting his faith in 18-year-old Callum Scanlon, who was called up to first-team training from the academy.
