Leicester City winger Yunus Akgün’s goal in the 4-0 victory over Latvia has been nominated for UEFA Goal of the Week.
The Turkish winger scored a stylish goal in the 58th minute, which was one of four goals nominated for the award.
Akgün opened the scoring in what ended up being a decisive victory that booked the Turkish national team a place in Euro 2024 with one game left to play in the group.
The 24-year-old started against Latvia and put on an impressive display over the course of the game.
The other nominated goals were scored by Ukrainian Mikhailo Mudryk, Swiss Xherdan Shaqiri, and Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Voting ends on Friday at 4p.m.
Akgün has returned to Leicester City after the national break and is expected to start in the team’s next match against Swansea City on Saturday, October 21.
The winger joined the Foxes on loan from Galatasaray over the summer but the Championship side do have a buy option to make the move permanent.
Leicester manager Enzo Maresca signed Akgün this summer after working with the winger during his time as assistant manager to Vincenzo Montella – current Turkiye national team manager – at Adana Demirspor.
