Former Bristol City loan defender Todd Kane has made a surprise transfer after leaving Championship rivals Coventry City.
The 30-year-old has been a free agent since his contract expired with Saturday’s opponents, but having been unattached for three months, the next club of his career has been revealed. He has signed with Manchester 62, who play in the Gibraltar Premier Division, and are managed by former TNS boss Anthony Limbrick.Kane had played against his former loan club Bristol City on January 1, and now nine months on he has opted to leave English football behind and take on a new adventure. His move is regarded as a top-flight move, however it is ranked 54th out of 55th out of the top-flight European leagues in the UEFA coefficient rankings with only San Marino below it.
After making the surprise move, Kane said: “I am really excited to join Manchester 62, not only to be a part of their journey to win trophies, and push for Europe on pitch. But to be a part of their journey to make a difference off the pitch.
“I will be working with club owner Michael Monsour to help the club in their efforts towards spreading awareness and support for an important issue that is very close to my heart.”Kane’s career has seen him go from Chelsea, where he spent seven-years contracted to them as a professional, to playing in a league in which all 11 teams use the same venue for fixtures.In the seven-years he spent at Stamford Bridge he was loaned out eight times, including to Bristol City in the 2014/15 season where he made seven appearances before joining Nottingham Forest. The other clubs in his career include Preston North End, Blackburn Rovers, NEC Nijmegen, Groingen, Oxford United, Hull City, QPR, and later Charlton Athletic.
