Jon Dahl Tomasson felt Blackburn Rovers were good value for their victory over Cardiff City despite a bit of fortunate with their disallowed goal.
Rovers claimed back-to-back wins in the Championship thanks to Joe Rankin-Costello’s second-half strike. That saw Tomasson’s men edge a tight game with few clear-cut chances.
Cardiff could’ve led in the first half when Dimitrios Goutas headed in from a corner but the goal was ruled out. Karlan Grant was offside and viewed to be in an offside position in front of Leopold Wahlstedt.
Tomasson admitted it wasn’t a vintage performance by his side but credited the opposition, who made it difficult to break them down.
“It was a brilliant win against a very good Cardiff side,” Tomasson said. “After an international break, it can be hard to get started again.
“I thought we backed the QPR win up in front of our fans. It probably wasn’t the best game we have played lately but Cardiff are extremely difficult to beat.
“We moved the ball a bit too slow but we spoke about it at half time. We needed to get the balls into the right areas and make runs in-behind.
“We scored a great goal like that so that was pleasing to see that. We got a win, a clean sheet and there was great togetherness at the end where you have to dig in.
“It was a deserved win, we could have scored more. In my opinion, we had five good chances to score goals. They had the disallowed goal, it was offside the player.
“Then the save from Leo where he saved it really well. It was a big save.”
On the disallowed goal, Tomasson felt that whilst Rovers may have been fortunate, they had earned that looks across the course of the season. He referenced decisions that went against his side this season and didn’t dwell on the call.
“We shouldn’t forget Cardiff are very solid, they’re very good defensively,” Tomasson said. “We were too slow in periods, the goal was a good example of getting the ball into the right places and a great goal.
“I was disappointed looking at some of the decisions we’ve had this season. The Leicester red card we didn’t get, the Middlesbrough game, the disallowed goal for Moran at Coventry.
“If you look at the big picture, it works itself out at the end of the season.”
