Wolves must make £15m transfer swoop for the hot-shot who has been out-scoring Mbappe and Kane

Wolves transfer news as Gary O’Neil admits to squad depth concern ahead of the upcoming January transfer window

Wolves had Sasa Kalajdzic to thank for his heroics off the bench in Saturday’s 2-1 win over AFC Bournemouth. The Austrian striker was the man of the moment in the late stages for the second time this season to move Gary O’Neil’s side seven points above the relegation zone.

Matheus Cunha – who started up-front – also found himself on the scoresheet within two minutes of the restart. Pedro Neto was unfortunate not to score two himself in a contest with a left-footed strike smashing the crossbar early on.

From the 21 shots at the Vitality Stadium, only seven were on target and it wasn’t until an error from Bournemouth’s goalkeeper, Neto, that Kalajdzic had his first sniff at goal. Perhaps a harsh statement, but Wolves are still lacking an out-and-out striker.

O’Neil’s admission of his concerns over the size of his squad has hinted that preparation for the January transfer window at Molineux is already underway. As always, financial availability will play a huge role in how much O’Neil can address the problem, but for some supporters,

In Birmingham.live’s coverage of O’Neil’s quotes on Saturday, a handful of supporters had their say on the upcoming transfer window. Some admitted their concerns of losing Pedro Neto, while others were encouraged by O’Neil’s honesty about the situation.Serhou Guirassy

One user said: “There’s a lack of talent and experience on our bench at present. That must be addressed in the new year. (Matt Doherty) shouldn’t have played yesterday but there was no-one else. That’s not good enough in the Premier League and will be a great disadvantage as the season progresses if the situation is not improved.

Another said: “We need (Jean-Ricner) Bellegarde in again ASAP, I believe he will be worth his price. But we MUST buy a striker in January.” This fan’s comment was followed by another call for a new number nine. “I think we need a back-up for Kalajdzic,” another fan wrote. “Neither (Matheus) Cunha nor Hwang (Hee-chan) are strikers. That leaves (Fabio) Silva as back up striker.

Serhou Guirassy will be available for €17.5m in January due to a release clause in his contract, according Sky Sports Germany

“That’s my reasoning for wishing to see another back-up for Kalajdzic, given his dismal injury record. We don’t want to be left, mid-season, with only Silva as a recognised striker. Strength in depth is what is needed.”

Football is, of course, a game full of opinions. What some believe is Wolves’ priority in January may not be replicated by the recruitment team in Wolverhampton. However, details of a possible bargain could tempt Jeff Shi and O’Neil into signing a new striker.

Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy is currently the hottest number nine in European football. The 27-year-old has scored 15 goals in nine appearances already this season – including eight goals from his first eight shots on target – outscoring the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.Serhou Guirassy

Now, according to Sky Germany, a release clause of €17.5million (£15.2m) will be valid from January and will run through to the following summer window. The report from Florian Plettenberg does state that the striker has no intention of leaving the Bundesliga outfit in January, but the Premier League is difficult to turn down
