Everton developments to trigger panic across all Premier League clubs

Everton have been threatened with a 12-point deduction in the Premier League if they are found guilty of Financial Fair Play breaches, in a move that will trigger panic across every rival club, according to the Irish Independent.

The Irish newspaper shared on 25 October that if the points deduction, which would be the first of its kind, is given to Everton, rival clubs would also be worried about their own financial situations.

The Telegraph shared on 25 October that the Premier League have recommended the 12-point deduction as the maximum punishment if the regulatory committee finds Everton guilty of financial breaches.

The punishment will set a precedent

If Everton are found guilty of financial breaches by the independent regulatory board and subsequently handed a 12-point deduction, it will set the standard for the rest of the league in case of any future breaches.

Plenty of Premier League owners will be checking and double-checking their books over the coming days to avoid any potential scrutiny leading to the possibility of a punishment anywhere near as severe as the one that has been recommended for Everton.

Take Manchester City for example. The Premier League opened an investigation into over 100 alleged breaches of financial rules in February 2023 [Sky Sports], and their punishment will be expected to be just as, if not more severe than the one levelled at Everton.
