David Prutton predicts result of West Brom ‘test’ against Coventry City for Sky Sports
David Prutton has predicted that West Brom will extend their unbeaten streak to three matches when the Baggies face Coventry City on Monday 30 October.
The Sky Sports presenter believes that Carlos Corberan’s side will continue their impressive recent form having beaten QPR 2-0 on Tuesday (24 October) but doesn’t think Albion will have enough to beat the Sky Blues, suggesting that it will be a 1-1 draw.
After an indifferent start to the campaign, the Baggies have only lost one of their last eight Championship matches, while Coventry are winless in their last three outings, but Prutton believes that Mark Robins’ side will provide a “sterner test” that QPR.
Writing in his Championship predictions (26 October) he said: “Coventry are having a tricky little spell, and they were really poor at Rotherham in midweek. They are still adapting to life after Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer, as well as the play-off hangover.
“West Brom enjoyed a decent win over QPR in midweek, but this is a far sterner test, even if Coventry are not in the best of form. Draw here. 1-1.”
West Brom should be heading into every game they play full of confidence at the moment as they are incredibly tough to beat and break down, even if they haven’t quite turned as many of their draws into wins as they would have hoped so far this season.
Coventry on the other hand look incredibly hungover from what was a tough end to last season and they haven’t yet hit their stride. But they cannot be underestimated as they were slow starters last season, before going on an excellent run to the play-off final.
Corberan’s side has also been massacred by injury problems, especially in defence where Cedric Kipre’s knock late on against QPR looks set to keep him out of Monday night’s clash. In attack, similar is true with Brandon Thomas-Asante the only fit recognised senior striker as Josh Maja and Daryl Dike remain sidelined.
A win would see Albion really establish themselves in the early playoff race as there are four teams currently sat on 20 points spanning from sixth to ninth, with only five points between West Brom in sixth and Coventry in 20th as the Championship once again proves to be incredibly competitive.
A draw as Prutton predicts would be by no means a bad result for the Baggies, but a win would be a huge boost to this early season run at The Hawthorns.
