Leeds United is scouting Marcelo Bielsa’s favorite player, a phenomenal ace who wants to come to England, along with Aston Villa and Tottenham.
Leeds United again have been linked with a move to sign Uruguay international Joaquin Piquerez ahead of the January window, but are joined by Aston Villa, Tottenham, and Marseille.
As we approach November, plans might already be formulated by Daniel Farke and the board about how the club might tackle the January window.
Offers won’t be formulated yet, but the shortlists will surely be taking shape in problem positions for the German boss, given some areas of Leeds’ squad still lack depth.
Leeds to move for Joaquin Piquerez?
The summer window saw Leeds linked with Uruguay international Joaquin Piquerez, currently playing in the Brazilian top flight with Palmeiras.
Two different outlets reported of Leeds’ “endeavours” to sign the 25-year-old in the summer, with Diego Firmino and Torcedores.com claiming the Whites were keen.
Now, Diego Firmino has relayed this information, revealing that Leeds are still keen on the left-back, as he shares that the player is being tracked by Leeds and three other clubs:
“Regarding Piquerez, he has already received surveys and is being ‘monitored’: Aston Villa, Leeds United, Tottenham, Olympique de Marseille.”
Who is Piquerez?
In the 2023 league season in Brazil, Piquerez has notched three goals and four assists for his club, while Palmeiras sit third and on course to qualify for the Copa Libertadores.
Meanwhile, he has also been a frequent presence in Marcelo Bielsa’s start to life as Uruguay, appearing in all four of the Argentine’s four World Cup qualifying fixtures this season.
He started in three games against Chile, Ecuador and Colombia, before coming off the bench late on in the famous win over Brazil earlier this month.
