Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca told Leicestershire Live over the weekend that Harry Winks was the first name on his shopping list after becoming Foxes boss – beating Leeds to Winks’ signature.

Winks, 27, joined Leicester in the summer from Tottenham for a fee of £10m. It comes after spending a season on loan at Sampdoria, who have of course been taken over by Andrea Radrizzani. Enough

He returned to Spurs, before Leicester made their move – landing the 10-time England star, who was in need of rejuvenating his career. He is certainly doing that with the Foxes, who are shining this season.

Already, they have broken records. They sit top of the table, Leicester five points clear of Ipswich – dropping points only once all season. Winks has been key, starting 14 games, completing 13 of them.

On Saturday, Winks curled in an absolute worldie in a 2-1 win over QPR. A gorgeous finish from the Spurs academy graduate. Speaking after his winner, Maresca said he was the first name on his hit list.

“When I met the club for the first time, he was the first name I told them,” Maresca said. “He was the main player. With this idea, he is an unbelievable player. I saw him at Spurs, I saw him last year in Italy.”

Winks has been sensational. When Leeds were linked with him in the summer – Italian site Samp News 24 said that we were looking at Winks – there was trepidation over his possible arrival at Elland Road.

Many thought his best days were behind him and his injuries over the past 18 months have caught up with Winks. That may of course, still prove to be the case. But, he is kickstarting his career at Leicester.Harry Winks says Tottenham's new stadium feels like home | Football News | Sky Sports

Leeds signed Ethan Ampadu, Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev in the summer but having Winks alongside an Ampadu improves our middle of the park. His technical ability is up there with the best in the League.
