Wolves will reportedly not be going back in for Salernitana striker Boulaye Dia in January, with the club dropping their interest.

That was the claim yesterday from The Telegraph, which has shed some light on the situation at Wolves after several big sales in the summeThere were a lot of squad changes in the last transfer window. They were necessary after Wolves faced breaking FFP rules.

Wolves’ situation is much healthier now as a result. But there will reportedly still not be a great deal of money to spend in January.

But Gary O’Neil is keen to strengthen and is said to be ready to prioritise a new number nine. It remains to be seen if he will get his wish.

But it looks as though if a new centre-forward does come in, it will not be Boulaye Dia…

Wolves to look at other strikers with Boulaye Dia not a January target

Some have wondered if the club might make another attempt to sign Dia in January.

Wolves famously tried to land Dia, 26, on transfer deadline day in the summer window. But their late proposal was publicly slammed by Salernitana’s sporting director Morgan De Sanctis.

This proposal was apparently an initial loan move with an option to buy. De Sanctis said of the offer: “We received a phone call late on Thursday night with talk of a loan with the option to buy for figures that, if I were to make public, would cause a diplomatic incident.”

Salernitana valued Dia at around £34 million at the start of July.

It looks as though Wolves will not be trying their luck again in January.

The Telegraph are reporting that Wolves have now dropped their interest in the Senegal international, who Salernitana fined for his reaction to missing out on a move to Molineux.

Relations with Salernitana may make Dia transfer difficult

It is interesting that Wolves are reportedly not going to be making a fresh move for the ‘athletic’ Dia. Because it sounded very much like the player was open to the move in the summer.

Perhaps there is still some ill-feeling on the part of the Italian club, and Wolves don’t see them being willing to do business.

Whatever the reasons, it will be interesting to see who the club do target instead.

Seemingly, O’Neil is pretty keen to get a new central striker in. Wolves have been much improved in the final third this season, but there have still been several occasions where that clinical finishing
