Forget Lionel Messi, Alexis Mac Allister and Jude Bellingham - James Maddison is the signing of the summer transfer window for Spurs at just £40m | Goal.comJamie Redknapp tells summer signing what Tottenham fans have been saying about him

Jamie Redknapp has told James Maddison that he believes that his arrival in the summer was a game-changer for Tottenham Hotspur, insisting that he was the key to Ange Postecoglou changing the team’s style.

Redknapp was speaking to the Spurs star on A League Of Their Own with the England international making an outstanding start to life in North London.

James Maddison has arguably been the signing of the summer in the Premier League. He joined Tottenham off the back of Leicester City being relegated from the top-flight last season.

Maddison did all he could to keep the Foxes up. And he has carried that form into his time with Tottenham. He has scored three goals and provided five assists in the Premier League. It was also his cross which led to the own goal which gave Spurs the lead at Crystal Palace o

Maddison has formed a brilliant partnership with Son Heung-min. And Jamie Redknapp has suggested that the 26-year-old was the key reason Tottenham have now elevated themselves into the title picture in the early stages of the new campaign.

“I don’t want to embarrass you here, James, but I think if you hadn’t signed that football wouldn’t have changed that much. I think you have genuinely given them a different dimension,” he said on A League Of Their Own.

“I know I am polishing you off again here, but you are so good. You are! Joking aside, I have friends who are Spurs fans, and you have changed how they play and sometimes it does take a certain individual to do that.”

Spurs benefitting from raft of changes over the summer

Tottenham are one club who have definitely benefitted from the raft of changes which have taken place over the last few months.

Ange Postecoglou has taken no time to capture the imagination as manager. Meanwhile, they have added the likes of Guglielmo Vicario and Micky van de Ven to replace former stalwarts Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier.

Even the sale of Harry Kane has helped in some ways. While Postecoglou would obviously rather have the striker in his ranks, there are positives to the situation being resolved once and for all.Forget Lionel Messi, Alexis Mac Allister and Jude Bellingham - James Maddison is the signing of the summer transfer window for Spurs at just £40m | Goal.com

Son has potentially benefitted from Kane being sold. And it has given Tottenham a chance to really start afresh.

But certainly, you could definitely argue that the signing of Maddison was the moment which brought it all together for Spurs this season
