Tottenham Hotspur are making moves on and off the pitch as they look to take the club in a new direction under Ange Postecoglou.

football.london revealed that new chief scout Rob Mackenzie will begin work next week at the club after making the switch from Aston Villa, following in the footsteps of Spurs’ new technical director Johan Lange who started on Wednesday. The duo worked together at the Midlands club and will now look to help improve Tottenham’s ability to unearth gems in the game.

Spurs’ chief football officer Scott Munn has been overhauling the club’s recruitment since his own arrival at the club with a move to a more data-based analytical approach to help find players suited to Postecoglou’s system. The highly-rated Mackenzie could play a big role in the January transfer window having arrived with plenty of time for Lange to execute their best-laid plans.

“I’ve caught up with Johan, nothing too formal,” Postecoglou told football.london this week. I don’t have the attention span for long meetings mate so it tends to be just casual chats with people. It’s the best way to get my point across if I need to say anything. The good thing is he is in the building now so he’s interacting with all the right people.Johan Lange has left Aston Villa to become Tottenham Hotspur's new technical director in charge of recruitment

“The bit with me is the easy bit, it’s about setting up the procedures and the structures to make sure he gets the department working the way he wants to get the right outcomes. As you said, Rob joining will help that. It is important they come in now. The January window, like for every club, is an important one.

“My view on the January one is that if you can get your business done early in the window it certainly is more helpful because you leave it until the end of January and sometimes what you try to gain you’ve missed that opportunity by waiting a whole month. That’s sometimes out of your control so having him in is good. I’m sure we’ll have a lot of discussions between now and then and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
