Tottenham Hotspur could see Steven Bergwijn return to the Premier League – or rejoin former Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo in Saudi Arabia.

Former Spurs winger Steven Bergwijn is attracting major interest despite Ajax’s dismal start to the new season.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that some Premier League clubs re interested in Bergwijn.

Big changes could come in Amsterdam in 2024 and one of them could be wide man Bergwijn.

Ex-Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn could return to Premier League

Fabrizio Romano reports that Bergwijn is now a serious option for Saudi Arabian clubs in the January transfer window.

NOS in the Netherlands reported on Sunday that Al Ittihad have now knocked on the door to try and sign Bergwijn.

Al Ittihad are managed by Nuno Espirito Santo, who coached Bergwijn at Tottenham back in 2021.

A reunion could be on the cards but Bergwijn may also have an option to return to the Premier League.

Romano suggests that Premier League clubs are ‘considering’ moves for Bergwijn, but none of the sides are named.

Bergwijn could be on the move again

Bergwijn appeared to be an exciting signing for Spurs in January 2020 as he arrived from PSV Eindhoven.

A superb start against Manchester City couldn’t be replicated consistently though and he decided to leave Tottenham in 2022 having registered just eight goals and 10 assists in 83 games.

Tottenham sold Bergwijn to Ajax for £26.4million with some still feeling that he could have played a role in North London.

Heading to Saudi Arabia at 26 would be a shame for a talent like Bergwijn but that move may well appeal more than a return to the Premier League.

This would be yet another transfer for Bergwijn, and Tottenham won’t exactly feel that they made a mistake in selling him.
