Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna says his team aren’t going to be at their best every week – and that’s when character will be all important.

The Blues sit second in the Championship with one game left before the November international break, and are unbeaten in 11 league matches.

But they’ve drawn their last two games – 2-2 at both Birmingham and Rotherham – and their performance levels have perhaps dropped off a bit in recent weeks.

Given the incredible standards that Town have set from kick-off, and the grind of the Championship season, McKenna says that’s inevitable.

“It’s such a long season and there’s going to be so many different types of games, we’re not going to be perfect every week,” he explained.

“I keep saying it, but we’re really realistic – we’re a newly promoted team going to other sides who have a plan and try to impose themselves and stop us.

“We’re not always going to be at our best and when we’re not it’s important that we show the right mental characteristics, keep our belief and we’ve done those things.”

Town’s boss stressed that, whatever happens on the pitch, his side must stick together and stick to the principles which have got them so far.

He added: “That’s going to be massive because it’s a really challenging league.
