From the moment that football returns on Saturday, to the close of Boxing Day, what a colossal set of eight matches to look forward to. I cannot wait!

And furthermore, six of those games are live on Sky. Ok, being able to watch Town live these days is not quite the rarity it once was.

I mean with Town TV, red buttons, and other avenues, you can pretty much watch any game live these days. Especially if you are abroad.

Incidentally, I really am in Spain on Saturday to take part in the Benidorm 10k, which finishes nicely just before kick-off for the West Brom

I prefer to think of a bona-fide ‘live’ game as one on terrestrial TV or on Sky. Just like in the old days when there was simply no other platform available. It is just over a year since my book ‘Town on the Telly’ was published and this alluded to such type of game.

There was time when a live Town game sent shivers through the minds of Town fans. But that’s yet another problem solved by Kieran McKenna it would seem.

The Town boss has been involved in seven live games, with Rotherham United providing the opposition for the first and latest of those games.

After losing that first game 1-0, followed by a narrow 2-1 defeat at Plymouth, wins have come against Derby, Bracknell, Exeter, and Sunderland, followed by a 2-2 draw at Rotherham.

The current sequence of five unbeaten games is our best run of undefeated matches in live games since the four unbeaten live games shown in 2002/03 and the first unbeaten live game shown in the 2003/04 season.

That run also included four wins and a draw. The best run of undefeated live games is ten stretching across seasons 1999/00 and 2000/01. It would be nice to think that this run of six live games coming up can beat that record.

As for the opposition coming up in the next six live games, we have yet to beat West Brom on TV.

The first of four live matches occurred in April 2000 at The Hawthorns, and that saw a Matt Holland goal earn a point in a 1-1 draw as George Burley’s side ultimately won promotion.

This was followed by three defeats as Joe Royle, Roy Keane, and Paul Lambert all suffered losses.

Time for another wrong for McKenna to make right. Two previous live games against Millwall include the 0-0 game on Anglia TV in May 1996 which meant Burley’s side missed out on the play-offs, whilst Millwall were relegated.

In September 2004, Joe Royle’s men won a Sunday lunchtime game 2-0 thanks to goals from Darren Bent and Pablo Counago.

We have also played Watford twice in live games and once again, one came under the guidance of Royle.

What a memorable day it was for Dean Bowditch who scored a hat-trick in a 4-1 home win in a Saturday lunchtime game in March 2004. Jermaine Wright was our other scorer that day.

Then, Jim Magilton’s side lost a Vicarage Road game 2-1 in a Saturday tea-time game in August 2008. Counago was once again on the scoresheet.

Unsurprisingly, Norwich are our most-faced opposition in live games.

There have been 24 in total and Town have won only six of those with the last victory coming in November 2006 when goals from Danny Haynes (2) and Sylvain Legwinski saw Town win 3-1 at Portman Road, with Magilton the last manager to taste a live victory against the Canaries.

Since then, it has been five draws and seven defeats. How we hope so much for McKenna to get us an eagerly awaited victory on December 16.

Similarly, we need to put a record right against Leeds United. Two live games have seen a draw and a defeat.

A John Lyall side drew 0-0 in October 1993, and George Burley’s side lost 2-1 in September 2001. Both games were played at Portman Road, both Premier League clashes.

And finally, five live games against Leicester City have so far produced an excellent return of four wins and a draw.

Most noticeably was the last encounter that was played in the snow at Portman Road in December 2010 as Roy Keane’s side triumphed  3-0 with goals from Jason Scotland (2), and David Norris.
