Dan Orlovsky says he may leave due to the price tag that will……
Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky likes what he saw from Green Bay Packers starter Jordan Love as Love guided the 5-6 club to wins in three of its past four games.
“The last month, there’s been a lot of good,” Orlovsky said about Love during a chat with ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. “You hear the terms floors and ceilings, I would say his floor has been elevated the last month or so.”
After the Packers fell to 2-5 on the campaign, general manager Brian Gutekunst acknowledged that the season’s final 10 games were “very important” as it pertains to determining if Love can be Green Bay’s long-term replacement for future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. Love tossed eight touchdown passes and two interceptions over the team’s last four contests. The 25-year-old also completed over 65% of his pass attempts in that same stretch.
“Do I think he is where he needs to be mechanically with his feet right now? No,” Orlovsky continued during his evaluation of Love. “But I think that they’ve realized that if he’s clean or protected, they can get to the mechanics and his feet in the offseason a little bit with his balance and base. They’re really doing a good job trying to keep him clean in that regard.”
According to ESPN stats, Love enters Week 13 ranked 19th in the NFL with a 52.6 adjusted QBR, 20th with an 87.4 passer rating, 32nd with a 60.5% completion percentage and tied for seventh with 19 touchdown passes. Such numbers indicate Love isn’t yet Rodgers 2.0, but Orlovsky believes there’s room for significant growth.
“I don’t know if he’s Aaron [in terms of] arm talent, arm arrogance, arm middle finger,” Orlovsky added about the 2020 first-round draft pick. “He’s not a technician either. That’s not who he is athletically. But if the poor mechanics are forcing you to miss throws that you and every other quarterback should and are capable of making, then you have to address them. And I do think there’s still stuff there [to address], but you absolutely can get him there.”
Much will be made early next year about what the contract extension Love signed this past spring means for his future with the organization. For now, he’ll do all he can to focus on the upcoming “Sunday Night Football” home game against the 8-3 Kansas City Chiefs.
As of Wednesday afternoon, OddsChecker listed the Chiefs as six-point favorites for that matchup.
