Former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson has been forced off with an injury on his Crystal Palace debut.

The stopper was on loan at the City Ground last season and played 18 Premier League games before an injury brought a premature end to his season. He was replaced by fellow loanee Keylor Navas, but that did not stop Forest wanting to re-sign Henderson this past summer.

Another added: “There was rumours Forest wouldn’t buy Hendo because he couldn’t kick a football with his injury. That’s why the loan deal was proposed and also why we wanted quite a few games in the buy clause. Right decision, smug face tomorrow for all who made that call.”

It was said that Forest were preferring a loan with an obligation to buy, as opposed to a permanent transfer, perhaps because of Henderson’s recent injury record. United and Forest both held firm on their respective stances, so a move never materialised.

Henderson instead joined Palace this summer, and made his debut on Tuesday evening in the Carabao Cup, away at his former club Manchester United. He was forced off with a reported groin injury less than 20 minutes into the clash.

Forest supporters have been reacting to Henderson’s injury on social media. One said: “Awful bad luck for Dean Henderson but 100% vindicates the decision of #NFFC not to buy him. All the Man U fans moaning at us for not going ahead with the deal can shut up now.”
