Leeds United attempted to strengthen their midfield in the summer with a bid for Celtic’s Matt O’Riley, but failed, and now he’s being touted for a move to the Premier League or Inter Milan.
The Whites come into the January window knowing that they could benefit a great deal from adding quality to their attacking midfield options.
At present, Leeds don’t really have anyone capable of playing in attacking midfield natural, with Georginio Rutter impressing there as he dropped from the number nine role on New Year’s Day.
Celtic’s midfield star Matt O’Riley could have been a very strong signing for Leeds to add goals and assists from behind the attacking setup this season.
Sky Sports reported in August that the club tabled a £10million offer for the Celtic man, only to see that offer rejected before he penned a new deal after the window shut.
His form since has justified Leeds’ keen interest in signing him, scoring 10 and assisting 10 across all competitions already this season at the age of 23.
Luton Town and Inter Milan now chasing O’Riley
Further compounding Leeds’ faltering ambition to sign high-profile players is the fact that the same outlet is now reporting that Premier League side Luton Town are now plotting a move for the Danish midfielder, having held long-term admiration for him.
Not only that, but Italian giants Inter Milan are monitoring the Celtic ace ahead of a possible swoop in January.
