The Blue Jays will be sporting a bit of different look for a few games this coming season.
The team tweeted out a teaser image on Tuesday after Nike, the sports apparel giant, announced the nine teams that will take part in the City Connect line of alternate uniforms this coming season.
The tweet doesn’t offer much in the way of hints as to what the new alternate uniforms may look like, though. The image is very dark with the words ‘CITY CONNECT’ and the Nike and Blue Jays logos in white, though the CN Tower and Toronto’s skyline shot from above the Rogers Centre looking east can be made out.
While some previous editions of City Connect uniforms were merely throwbacks, others have been significant departures from the teams’ usual getups. The Boston Red Sox City Connect jerseys were yellow and blue in a nod to the Boston Marathon while the San Diego Padres featured pink and mint green.
Teams also have used alternate names on their uniforms, with the Diamondbacks going by Serpientes to pay homage to the Latino demographic in their city and the Brewers opting for the Brew Crew.
According to reports, the Blue Jays are set to debut their City Connect looks on May 6 and they will make their on-field debut May 31 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Along with the Jays, the Guardians, Tigers, Dodgers, Twins, Mets, Phillies, Cardinals and Rays will be part of the City Connect line this season.
