Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has warned his players over complacency as Leeds United continue to chase.
The Foxes came out as 2-0 winners over Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Abdul Fatuwu and Jamie Vardy, it was their fourth straight win in the league. At the same time, Leeds came out as 4-0 winners away at Swansea thanks to goals from Crysencio Summerville, Joel Piroe and Wilfried Gnonto (X2).
That result, along with Southampton’s 3-1 defeat against Bristol City, saw the Whites reclaim second spot. Daniel Farke’s men are 12 points behind leaders Leicester. The two teams face each other at Elland Road a week on Friday, and Leeds will be ready to pounce if there is a slip-up.
Speaking after the win over Sheffield Wednesday, Maresca sent a clear message to his players about the lead that they have over second and third place. He also outlined how he will manage any complacency that may creep in.
“There are fans, there is the club, there is the opposition, so you need to show respect. The only way to show respect is to commit to every game and not to drop. We are not allowed to drop anything. We haven’t reached anything. We need to continue winning games.
Both Leeds and Leicester are back in action on Saturday. The Whites have the long journey down to Plymouth in the 12.30pm kick-off at Home Park.
Leicester, meanwhile face play-off chasing Middlesbrough at the King Power Stadium. Michael Carrick’s side came out as 1-0 winners over the Foxes in the reverse fixture back in November.
