The talking points and conclusions after Middlesbrough’s win over Leicester City and what the future holds for the young discovery from…….

Middlesbrough beat league leaders Leicester City 2-1 at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, ending their four-game run without a win.

Finn Azaz and Sammy Silvera goals proved enough to claim three vital points to keep the season alive, with Jamie Vardy’s late Foxes goal proving only enough to make for a nervy ending for Michael Carrick’s side. The win meant Boro stayed seven points adrift of the play-off places with 14 games remaining.

A significant win it most certainly felt, it sets Boro up for five huge games now before the international break. Here are our talking points and conclusions emerging from the Leicester City victory.

The most typical of Boro wins

In beating Leicester City at the King Power, Boro completed the league double over the Foxes for the first time since 2001. Is there a more ‘typical Boro’ thing than losing at home to Bristol City and Preston North End, then losing two key players like Jonny Howson and Hayden Hackney to injury before beating the champions-elect?

In one sense it’s just a jovial feature of following the Boro, in another, it’s a real source of frustration, particularly when considering Boro’s top-six aspirations. To put it into context, Boro have gained six points against Leicester this season, but dropped six against bottom-of-the-league Rotherham United…

Enough of that though. Let’s enjoy this win for what it was. A brilliant team performance in which Carrick came up with a game plan that his players carried out almost to perfection. Enzo Maresca admitted after the change in formation caught his side out. It was a team performance full of grit, determination and will to win throughout.
